Jill Scott is the only daughter from her mom Joyce Scott. She was born in Philadelphia the state of Pennsylvania on April 4, 1972. She was raised by her grandmother and she was an only child. Scott graduated from the Philadelphia High School for Girls. Then she enrolled in Temple University. Scott studied secondary school education while also working at two job. She planned on becoming a teacher of English in a secondary school. It was impossible to realize the dream after completing three years of study and working as a teaching assistant, she left college. Being a poet She began to sing at live poetry recitals. She later teamed along with Amir Quest Thompson (of The Roots) to form the group. You Got Me was co-written by the two. In a Roots performance, she came out in the spotlight as an artist. Afterwards she was able to get collaborations with artists like Eric Benet Will Smith and Common. Additionally, she was able to experience the arts of performing during the tour that Broadway's musical Rent. She was signed by the label's first artist.
